Travel Insurance Center

Added 22 July 2013

We have been investigating insurance for high risk destinations and as a result partnered with Travel Insurance Center. They have pointed out that they provide Travel Insurance comparison - so we have added them to this list.

  • They represent 16 insurance providers (according to their email, we have not verified this).
  • Better Buisness Bureau accreditation at highest A+ rating. The BBB reports 1 complaint in the last 3 years. (check latest)
  • MyWot.Com: rated excellent for trust, and good for reliability and privacy.

We last checked the comparison sites on 2 April 2012; and the rating site scores on 5 July 2012. Based on what we found, we have partnered with Squaremouth. Addition Travel Insurance Center checked 22 July 2013

Vacationing abroad for a period exceeding 6 months

Neither Squaremouth nor any of the other the North American comparison sites we checked appear to offer travel insurance for a trip abroad exceeding 6 months. Try:

  • US & Canadian residents: World Nomads home page states "Buy, extend and claim online even after you've left home".
  • US residents: STAtravel offered policies from one week to 2 years when we last checked.

Note: the companies in this section are not travel insurance price comparison sites.

Backpackers

Should also check out insurance offered by World Nomads and STA.

WorldNomads Insurance is recommended by reputable organisations like Rough Guide. When we checked, Worldnomads offered "gap-year" policies for people up to the age of 60 (most companies require you to be much younger). We have affiliated with World Nomads.

Note: WorldNomads and STA are not comparison sites.
